How to remove stubborn stains from the carpet?

A nice carpet is a great addition to the interior of any home. Good rugs can cost a fortune, but no matter how expensive a rug you own, it won’t make a good impression if it’s dirty. A well-maintained carpet gives a feeling of cleanliness throughout the room. Another reason to clean your carpets regularly is that they can retain harmful microorganisms that have a direct impact on the health of your entire family.

As experts in cleaning carpet stains, we can say that one of the biggest enemies of carpets are stains. In the following lines we will give some recommendations on how to clean different types of stains from your carpet.

There are two main types of cleaning – dry and wet. Each of them has its advantages and disadvantages.

  • Cleaning dry carpets

This method of cleaning is the most effective and with its help it is possible to eliminate over 70% of pollution. It is also quite cheap and easy to implement. And since it is not necessary to use abrasive substances during this cleaning, the dirt on the carpet can be used.

Highlights that will help improve the efficiency of dry cleaning:

You must first run the carpet vacuum cleaner properly to eliminate small debris (crumbs, hair, etc.). It may prevent further, more thorough cleaning. Thanks to this shape, it waves wool with the highest efficiency, while cleaning them at the base, and simultaneously aligning them. It should also be remembered that the carpet with a low hard pile should be cleaned with a nozzle with coarse bristles and with soft high contours – with a nozzle with standard hardness.

The next step will be to distribute specially designed dry-cleaning products over the entire surface of the coating. You can gently rub the powder with gentle circular motions to improve its effect. In this form, the carpet is left for half an hour to several hours. The term depends on the intensity of the contamination and the concentration of the detergent.

  • Cleaning wet carpets

This method is more suitable for removing old dirt that an ordinary vacuum cleaner cannot handle. However, we must not forget that for the same reason the effect of detergents is stronger and therefore with frequent use can damage the coating itself. Wet cleaners should be used once a month, not more often, so that the carpet product lasts longer.

But if it is necessary to urgently remove a stain, which especially spoils the appearance of a light carpet, a special stain remover can be applied in this area as an express method. The main thing – do not overdo it so as not to exceed the concentration of the active substance.

Wet cleaning should be started in the same way as for dry cleaning with complete mechanical vacuuming. Then rub a special shampoo or other agent into the pad, which is desirable to choose in terms of the characteristics of the coating (composition, thickness of the forks, etc.). After waiting for the time necessary for optimal interaction of the detergent with dirt, the carpet should be washed with water. It is better if the treatment will be carried out with the help of a vacuum cleaner – in this way the household chemicals will most likely be washed completely. But even if there is no such device in the household, it is quite possible to arm yourself with a simple rag.

If the flooring is made of natural material, it is necessary to approach its drying with special care and to prevent stagnation of moisture. Otherwise, it is fraught with the spread of the disease-causing mold.

  • Cleaning coffee stains

Imagine what a coffee stain would look like on a light or white carpet. Such a stain can make you buy a new carpet, which will significantly damage your budget. It is necessary to act quickly to clean these stains. Absorb first with a rag or kitchen paper. Then you have two options. One is to use a mixture of vinegar, water and detergent. Rub until the stain disappears completely. The second option is to use beer. Pour some beer directly on the stain and rub again until it disappears completely.

  • Red wine or bloodstains

Even a small stain of red wine or blood is enough to ruin a carpet, especially if it is light in color. These stains are difficult to clean, but the task is not impossible. You need to mix cold water and washing powder. Pour the mixture over the stain and rub until it disappears completely.

  • Grease or oil stains

These stains are especially unpleasant and common, especially on carpets in the kitchen or dining room. When such a stain appears, act quickly. Absorb the liquid and apply a generous amount of shaving cream. Rub and soak with a sponge until the stain disappears completely. Do not let it dry, because it will become even harder to remove.

  • Stains from ketchup or tomato sauce

Ketchup leaves a stain on the carpet almost immediately and is difficult to remove. Immediately after the stain appears, sprinkle salt directly on it. Wait for it to dry and vacuum it. Rub with a sponge and repeat the whole procedure if the stain is not completely removed.

  • Ink stains

Less common, but quite unpleasant, these stains are difficult to clean. Here it is very important to emphasize that you should not rub the stain in any case. All you have to do is soak it in alcohol. Alcohol breaks down ink. Use a cloth or sponge soaked in alcohol, then apply (without rubbing) on the ink stain. After a while, the stain will disappear. When this happens just dry the carpet and you’re done.

With the above recommendations you can clean stubborn stains from any carpet quickly and easily. It is important to remember that you need to act quickly, not wait for the stain to dry and then try to clean it. If you still can’t deal with the stains, you can seek professional help.
